Details of Tangail Sarees – Haritage of Bengal


Tangail is a one kind of weaving style or pattern that is totally handmade or handwoven. Almost all type of sarees are weaved in Tangail pattern.

What is Tangail Saree?

The word “Tangail” is comes from the Tangail district, Bangladesh. It is one type of handloom art where need very skilled weavers. Although it’s more famous in West Bengal rather than Bangladesh. This is an old cultural heritage.

Nadia, Bankura, Budwan in West Bengal still weaving tangail sarees.

Making Techniques:

Tangail sarees only weaved by hand. So no machine can be used here. The weaving style is different from other sarees. Very fine yarn and threads are used to prepare it that gives it a soft look.

Types of Tangail Sarees:

All kind of sarees are made in tangail weaving pattern. When jamdani sarees are made in tangail it is called tangail jamdani saree. Even Baluchuri, Ikkat, Matka – verity of tangail sarees are available in market.
